Hit the exact spec on the first try
Upload instructions usually stack four separate rules: pixel size, aspect ratio, file format, and a maximum file size. A photo can satisfy three of them and still be rejected for the fourth.
Crop and resize first, convert to the required format next, compress last. Then open the downloaded file and check it — that file is what the portal reads, not the preview.
What each requirement means
- Pixel dimensions
- Width and height in pixels, written as 600 × 800. Set these before anything else, because every other decision depends on them.
- Aspect ratio
- The shape of the frame — 1:1 for a square, 4:5 for a portrait. Match it before you export and nothing gets stretched or auto-cropped on the way in.
- File format
- How the image data is encoded. Renaming a .png to .jpg converts nothing; the file has to be re-encoded in the format the form asks for.
- File size
- Kilobytes on disk, which is not the same thing as pixels. Two photos at 600 × 800 can differ tenfold, so this is the last number to tune.

What order should I use the tools in?
Crop and resize, then convert, then compress. Compressing first wastes the effort, because resizing afterwards throws away the pixels you just spent bytes protecting. Check the downloaded file after each required change.
Are my photos uploaded for editing?
No. Cropping, resizing, conversion, compression, and print sheets all run in your browser. The file never leaves your device and is never shared with advertisers.
Which files can I open?
JPG, PNG, and WebP, one photo at a time. HEIC and HEIF files need converting on your device before you open them here.
Can I make a small photo bigger?
You can enlarge it, but enlarging invents no new detail. For a large upload or a physical print, start from the highest-quality original you have.
Why can a portal reject a photo that looks correct?
Appearance is one check of several. The portal may also read exact pixel counts, the real encoded format, byte size, orientation metadata, or its own rules about where the subject sits in the frame.
Can TidyCrop make an official passport or visa photo?
